Decluttering Before A Big Relocation

Organization is key when you are about to move to a new home or apartment. If you are a messy person or disorganized by nature, it will be necessary to create a plan of action to make your move as easy as possible. Let's look at easy ways to get organized no matter how cluttered your home may be.

Get Rid Of Things You Haven't Used In Awhile

If there is a box of clothes, shoes or other items that you haven't looked at or touched in a few months or more, just throw it out. Alternatively, you could choose to donate any items that may still be in good condition. In fact, it may be possible to just leave items by the side of the road in front of your home, and list them for free pick up if people are interested in them. If no one picks them up, it’s important you responsibly find an alternative way of disposing of them.

Carve Out An Hour A Day For Cleaning

No matter how busy you are, it is possible to set aside 60 minutes a day for cleaning or organizing. By taking care of one room or one portion of a room at a time, you can get everything sorted and into boxes by the day of your move. Once items are boxed, you can put them in the living room or some other central location. This makes it easier to vacuum, dust or otherwise clean that area before you leave.

Have A Moving Sale

The weekend before your big move, you should hold a moving sale where you sell as much of your unwanted stuff as possible. This may be a great way to clean out the garage while raising funds to pay for movers or pay closing costs on your new property. If possible, try to get others to create a buzz for your sale or contribute items themselves.

Hire A Moving Company

Hiring a moving company can make it easier to move your things in a timely manner. Moving professionals can help with both long-distance and local moves, and professional movers are also more likely to have experience with fragile and specialty items as well. This means that the items that you do bring with you won't be damaged during transport.

Moving or selling your home can mean a lot of work getting rid of clutter that has accumulated over several years. While it may seem daunting at first, it can be accomplished with some good planning, patience, and dedication to finishing the task in a timely manner.
